Strange Flowers,
My work explores the early 19th century Tasmanian frontier violence against the Palawa (Aboriginal Tasmanians) from my perspective as a descendant of the colonisers and my ancestors potential role in that violence. I use maps and outlines of Palawa Nation boundaries, although I acknowledge that the placing of these boundaries on the land is a Western contrivance as borders between groups of Aboriginal people requires deep knowledge.
EMANATE EXHIBITION AT NERAM

I am thrilled to be invited to exhibit my videos and video stills at the New England Regional Art Museum, Armidale, EMANATE Exhibition. The show is aimed at bringing contemporary and emerging art forms to NERAM and to provide opportunities for recently graduated art students to exhibit their work in a professional institution within a regional context. www.neram.com.au/event/emanate

Curator Alanna Irwin writes “failure is not necessarily the antithesis of success in this exhibition, but instead refers to something that is unexpected and errant. Drawing from the work of Dutch master Rachel Ruysch, Wendy Miller’s ceramic floral Ruin’s toy with the still life tradition of momento mori by stretching out the narrative of decay over three shape-shifting bouquets. Accepting chance as a collaborator, one of these pieces remains unfired and will wilt over the course of the exhibition, allowing us to witness the unpredictable beauty of its gradual decline.”

"Emergency"
Mylar Emergency blankets, often used to wrap and protect displaced asylum seekers, are cut and crocheted, used out of context and can never return to the original state. Wendy crochets gold and silver mylar fabric into flower motifs sewn together into a blanket.
